Habitat’s Catholic Build 2025

Just a few blocks down from Hewitt Street and Michigan Avenue intersection, you can come see the brand new home construction project of our 2025 Habitat for Humanity Catholic Build at 345 Firwood Street in Ypsilanti.   

The two Saturdays dedicated to our Catholic group volunteers:   April 25th & May 17th, 2025.

Please join me in praying for our partnership in building this home. Yes, building a new house requires many partners, including you!

2021 Catholic House

We are proud to announce the Catholic Build 2021

We have selected a home and family for the 2021 Catholic Build, which kicks off in May and June.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION & SIGNING UP

We are looking for 4 - 6 volunteers from partner churches to build with us on Saturday, May 15 and Saturday, June 19!

Also attached is the 2021 Catholic Build Flyer, which includes information on what to expect while volunteering on our site. 

Volunteers MUST pre-register and complete our online waiver, so we can provide accurate contact tracing should it be needed. Additionally, volunteers are expected to wear masks while on our sites and practice safe social distancing measures.

FUNDRAISING

This habitat house renovation is happening because of the generous support from our parish in partnership with neighboring parishes in Washtenaw County. Together volunteers from several parishes will be working to complete renovations.       This year, we are hoping to collectively raise $20,000 to help support the cost of renovation materials for the house.

We have a wonderful partner family.   The Catholic 2013 Habitat House is at 2143 Merrill, which is near Ypsilanti High School.   Volunteers are needed to assist with the renovations!  The volunteer start date is April 5th.    All of the volunteer dates from April 5th - June 8th are now posted for us to  SIGN-UP at: http://h4h.volunteerhub.com    or, contact the Habitat for Humanity Office (734-677-1558).

The Vivas-Linares Family

Hosanna Vivas-Linares and her daughter Andrea are beyond excited to partner with Habitat and attain their dream of owning a home. Hosanna and Andrea (age 11) have lived in Washtenaw County for the past seven years. Hosanna, who is originally from Venezuela, works for UofM as a Spanish-English medical interpreter. When you meet Hosanna, it is clear that she is determined to provide the best for her daughter, whether it's a safe and stable home or life skills like money management. Hosanna's determination has shone through in her partnership with Habitat; she immediately began the required classes and is hard at work earning her sweat equity hours in construction.

Lenten Effort - Almsgiving

During the Lenten season we pray, fast, and give alms.  “As the Body of Christ, We Serve One Another.”  The Lenten Season is a time of sacrifice almsgiving and prayer, in preparation for our renewal. Use your sack (or cardboard Rice Bowl) for collecting your monetary offerings from savings by preparing simpler meals or making other sacrifices for those living in harsh poverty conditions.

Since 1997 St. Francis members have helped build/rebuild 14 houses in Washtenaw County. These houses are simple, decent and affordable homes for low-income families.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.

The family – M and J– have been on site as often as possible – which most weekends has meant one of them has been on site EVERY SINGLE DAY!

They are so grateful for the love that has been outpoured to them and their three daughters.

The work continues!

The front step proved to be a challenging obstacle for volunteer crews...but in the end they prevailed!

At the same time, interior work continued to make sure this home is up to Energy Star standards for the family. 

Snow day!

Snow doesn't stop our volunteers! Here you can see that the green siding is still intact! The shiny foam board is for insulation in the basement - we want to make sure our homeowners stay warm! 

Working and fellowship!

Everyday brings transformation to the house and strengthens friendships among volunteers and the family!

The chilly weather didn't stop volunteers from getting so much done both in and outside! :) 

Moving the front step!

I don't know when I saw a group of men so proud of themselves! It took hours, but these fabulous volunteers got a couple hundred pound solid cement step into the dumpster! Woowee! I showed up just in time to snap a few pics of the final push and the smiles that followed!
